The New York Trombone Consort, along with composer Jay (Yair) Vilnai, present their season closing concert featuring three never before heard sections: A new piece written for the NYTC by Brooklyn composer Whitney E. George, entitles Fallicies. Next, the featured composer portrait of the trombone music of Israeli/New York composer Jay Vilnai, whose music has been an important addition to contemporary trombone repertoire. The program will include his Bohu for solo multi phonic trombone performed by Jen Baker, Only One is a Wanderer for trombone duo, performed by Ms. Baker and David Whitwell, and Selva Oscura for trombone consort. Lastly, the NYTC is honored to premiere a new solo suite by legendary bass trombonist Dave Taylor, using his own material as well as arrangements of the music of Franz Liszt, entitled Nuages Gris.

 

This promises to be the trombone event of the spring, not to be missed.

 

Led by David Whitwell, The New York Trombone Consort is a unique chamber trombone choir composed of soprano, alto, tenor, bass and contrabass instruments. NYTC is dedicated to promoting an ensemble that is virtually non-existent in today's new music scene.

A collaboration between some of New York's most exciting emerging composers and performers, Night of the AvanTrombones explores the far-reaching current trends in contemporary trombone writing and performance. The program will feature solo performances by several generations of trombone performers, including the legendary David Taylor and newer faces, Will Lang and David Whitwell. The heart of the program is the debut performance of the New York Trombone Consort, premiering pieces by David Taylor, Jay Vilnai, and John Chittum. 

 

The program features music written for ensembles ranging from solo trombone to trombone choir, running the gamut of new styles and techniques. Led by David Whitwell, The New York Trombone Consort is a unique chamber trombone choir composed of soprano, alto, tenor, bass and contrabass instruments. NYTC is dedicated to promoting an ensemble that is virtually non-existent in today's new music scene. The ensemble will premiere works by composers Jay Vilnai and John Chittum, as well as the famous arrangement of the Schubert Der Doppelganger and a new piece for bass trombone and the NYTC, both by Dave Taylor.
